Process Update

It’s hard to believe, but it is time for our first “annual update” to our homestudy.  We were notified last week that it’s time to start that process, which we need to have done by the end of June to remain eligible to adopt.

Here’s the paperwork we had to do this time - compared to the first time around, this was a cake-walk!
--Release of confidential info (this allows the agency to share our information with birthparents)
--Certified copy of each of our MVA records
--Child Protective Services release (this had to be notarized – luckily, one of Jeannine’s colleagues is a notary, which made it nice and easy!)
--Child Support Verification (to make sure neither of us owe child support)
--Vaccination and license information for the dog
--Financial Statement Worksheet (listing all of our assets and liabilities)
--Copy of most recent 1040
--Fingerprint checks

(If either of us had started a new job within the past year, or if we had moved or made any major changes to our home, there would have been a few more pieces of paperwork.)

Once our agency receives all of the information, they’ll schedule a time for a home visit, during which the social worker will inspect our home, we’ll sign a new contract, and write a check for the update fees.  Easy peasy.

That’s it as far as updates on the process side of things.  Over the next few blog posts, we’ll be sharing a bit about some of the research we’ve been doing during our waiting period.
